In Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Albee presents desperate humour between clenched teeth between the play’s protagonists, Martha and George, to highlight the tension between them, and how the unmet desires in their marriage cause them to bottle up their anger and disappointments, which manifests with a great desire to get on top of each other in an explicit but yet restrained manner.
